Book Displays

Blind Date with a Book

This February, Newport Middle School Library hosted a delightful "Blind Date with a Book" event! Students were invited to choose a wrapped book from a special display without knowing its title or author. Each book, carefully selected and wrapped, awaited an eager reader ready to take a chance on a new literary adventure. After unwrapping their surprise, students could check out their chosen book and enjoy a unique reading experience. This event added a fun twist to reading and encouraged students to discover new genres and authors they might not have picked otherwise. The excitement of unwrapping and diving into a mystery book made this event a memorable highlight of the month!

Hispanic Heritage Month

To honor Hispanic Heritage Month, our students at Newport Middle School took the initiative to create a special book display featuring works by Hispanic and Latinx authors. Alongside the books, students crafted short bio posters highlighting the lives and contributions of these influential authors. The display not only showcases a diverse array of literature but also serves as an educational resource, allowing students to explore the rich cultural heritage of Hispanic and Latinx communities.

For those eager to learn more, a QR code was included in the display, providing a quick and easy way to access additional information about Hispanic Heritage Month. The combination of student-created content and accessible technology made this display a dynamic and engaging way to celebrate and educate. All books are available for checkout, inviting students to dive into the stories and perspectives of Hispanic and Latinx voices.
