SUMMER READING FOR AP LITERATURE: Students will be responsible for reading Thomas C. Foster’s How to Read Literature Like a Professor: A Lively and Entertaining Guide to Reading in Between the Lines.
All AP Literature students will be required to submit the assignment below on Monday, August 25 - the first day of school.

In order to further prepare for the Honors English IV and AP Literature class, students will also be expected to create flashcards that contain the information specified below. Please pay close attention to the requirements. Flashcards will be collected on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, MONDAY AUGUST 25, 2025.
FLASHCARD REQUIREMENTS:
Flashcards should be created on 5x8 size note cards.
Each card should only present 1 term with its appropriate information. Please see below for each set’s requirements.
Allusions - For all note cards on allusions, please write the allusion on the front of the card. On the back include the following information:
The origination/definition of the allusion
An example in LITERATURE — This may require some research — although you can find many examples in How to Read Like a Professor. Your example can be simply the use of the word, or your example can be a situation that mirrors the event from which the allusion originated.
An explanation of how your example and the allusion relate — how does the allusion create meaning within the text?
