10% Classwork
Students will receive the occasional “ticket out the door” or other written assignment that will count towards classwork. If students are not in attendance, they miss those points unless a valid note is provided. Students will have one week to make up any missed assignments.
30% Homework
Students will have weekly playing assignments on SmartMusic to complete at home including method book exercises and excerpts from our concert music. We will work towards these playing goals in class, but additional practice and preparation at home is required for success.
30% Playing Quizzes
Students will have the occasional playing quiz in class to demonstrate that they are able to play, not only in a group, but also by themselves. We will work towards these playing goals in class, but additional practice and preparation at home is required for success.
30% Tests / Performances
Each member of the band is required to be at every performance and display excellent concert etiquette while present: no talking, texting, or making distracting sounds during the concert. Each performance is a large portion of their grade, therefore students will be required to sign in when they arrive at their call time. Performance dates and specific information will be provided well in advance. Please make arrangements for your student to be at every performance.
*If a student must miss a performance, a valid excuse note must be presented to the Band Director ahead of time in order to receive the make-up test for the performance.
