Advanced Placement

Carrollton High School offers three options for Advanced Placement English Study:

  • AP Literature & Composition: Literary analysis of works of fiction (novels, short stories, poems). Taken by 12th graders after having taken either Pre-AP American Literature OR AP Language/American Literature as 11th graders.
  • AP Language & Composition: Rhetorical analysis of works of non-fiction (memoirs, speeches, essays, and articles). Taken by 12th graders who took Pre-AP American Literature as 11th graders.
  • AP Language & Composition/American Literature (aka "The Combo Course"): Literary and rhetorical analysis of works of American Literature in preparation for both the Milestone exam and enrollment in IB World Literature as a junior/senior. Taken by 11th graders who took Pre-AP World Literature as 10th graders and intend to take AP Literature as 12th graders. Also taken by 10th graders who intend to enroll in the IB programme as 11th/12th graders.

If you are unsure of which course you are enrolled, please contact the guidance office or Mrs. Marsha Hook.

Note: SWEA Seniors taking IB World Literature for AP Literature credit should complete the IB Year Two summer reading--NOT AP Literature.
