What is the Christian Service hour requirement at Carmel Catholic?
The Christian Service hour requirement at Carmel Catholic is as follows:
Freshmen: 20 hours
Sophomores: 20 hours
Juniors: 20 hours
Seniors: 20 hours
Students must serve 80 total hours over the course of four years. Although a yearly requirement, it is expected that students engage in service each semester - ideally completing 10 hours each semester. Christian Service hours must be completed by May 1st for a given academic year and students may begin counting hours for the next academic year with service done on or after June 1st.
Do service hours completed for Carmel count towards Christian Service?
No. All Christian Service hours must be completed for non-profit, charitable organizations. No Carmel service hours done for Carmel's purposes will be accepted as Christian Service (e.g. summer camps, Street Scenes, Open House, etc.)
Use caution when recording service hours done with a club or organization at Carmel. Service hours done with a Carmel club or organization, that benefits the poor, vulnerable, or marginalized, does count as Christian Service. However, service hours done for a Carmel club or organization, that benefits that club or organization, does not count as Christian Service.
Are students required to complete service hours related to the category of their grade level?
No. Although it is highly encouraged that students complete their service hours at at least one location that corresponds to their target category, the categories are a recommended target for each grade level.
Are students allowed to bank Christian Service hours?
No. Students are not allowed to bank service hours. Students have to complete the required number of hours during the course of each academic year. Christian Service hours must be completed by May 1st for a given academic year and students may begin counting hours for the next academic year with service done on or after June 1st.
Can students complete Christian Service hours over the summer?
Yes. Students may begin counting hours for the next academic year with service done on or after June 1st. Incoming freshmen students can begin working on Christian Service over the summer after their 8th grade graduation. Incoming transfer students can begin after the last date at their former school.
How do I log Christian Service hours?
Students log Christian Service hours through MobileServe. MobileServe is the service hour tracking website Carmel uses for students to log Christian Service hours, find Christian Service opportunites, get Christian Service hours approved, and write reflections on their service experiences. New student training and initial login to MobileServe occurs in the fall of each academic year.
