Classroom Rules:
- All students received a copy of the classroom rules and consequences. Please review the rules with them.
Remind:
- Please see back for information on Remind app. Remind is a system that sends home reminder text messages or e-mail alerts telling students (or parents) about homework, tests, projects, etc.
Materials to Bring to Class Every Day:
- Pencil (no pens in math, please).
- Binder or folder (a binder is preferred to keep all loose papers organized)
- Textbook – functions as a work book. Students will need their book both in class and for homework. Students are encouraged to write right inside the book.
- (Suggested) Calculator – preferably the TI-30XIIS. I have a class set for students to use.
Homework Policy:
- Homework is assigned almost every day.
- Each student is responsible for missed work when they are absent. I have a space in my room dedicated to missed work for each period of the day. Students should find their missed work there. Otherwise, ask the teacher.
- In the case of a field trip, homework is due upon return from that field trip (same day).
- Each assignment is worth two points, broken down as follows:
2 – Homework is complete
1 – Homework is partially complete (at least half of the assignment is completed).
0 – Homework is not complete
Assessments
- Unit tests will be given at the end of each “topic” from the enVision text. These tests are designed to mimic PSSA tests and will be challenging. For this reason, all students will be given the opportunity to make up points on their tests by resubmitting answers on a separate sheet of paper. This resubmission MUST be done in the classroom, and still individually. Tests must also be resubmitted before the grading quarter ends.
- Projects will likely occur once per unit, and will be due on the dates assigned by the teacher.
Additional Assignments
- Two Unit-Long assignments will be given to students, due around the unit test. Unit Challenges are available in the back of the classroom. These are five questions (some intended to be easy, some more difficult). Students must complete these five questions at their leisure. Spiral Review Packet will be given on the first day of the unit. Many of the questions are directly linked to the lesson from class, some will be from previous lessons, and some will be for refreshing skills. These packets are due on the day of the unit test.
Hall Pass
- Available upon request, the hall pass may be used after the lesson is complete. The student must complete the sign out sheet while the teacher fills out a hall pass. Abuse of the hall pass privilege will result in the privilege being revoked.
Cell Phone Policy
- When the student enters the classroom, he or she can place their phone in his or her designated spot in the front of the classroom, where they can see it at all times. The student may choose to keep it in a purse or pocket or may leave it in their locker. Permission may be given by teacher to use a phone for academic purposes on a case by case basis.
- If caught using a phone during class, consequences will follow as listed above.
Grades
- Grades are kept under the following scale:
A = 100% – 90% B = 89% – 80% C = 79% – 70% D = 69% – 60% F = Below 59%
- Each grading period is a weighted average that follows the scale below:
Class Work = 20% Homework = 10% Tests/Quizzes/Projects = 70%
