STEM-Science, Technology, Engineering, Math

This quote is from the founder of a supplemental STEM program called Engineering is Elementary. Its foundation is the Engineering Design Process (EDP) which is something our 5th graders will be using throughout the school year. Students will also learn that the EDP is something that blends into all aspects of school and home life. Its premise is to come up with possible solutions to problems, test the ideas, and revise the ideas if they do not work. This coincides with the F.A.I.L. concept that runs throughout our classroom: First Attempt In Learning.

Visit this page throughout the year as I add photos of student learning and activities. STEM topics/units this year will include:

** Microworlds/Microscopes; Cell Structure; Plant Cells vs. Animal Cells

** Intro to Coding and Robotics

**Elementary Physics; Motion, Forces, and Design

**Space and Space Exploration

"If It Scratches, Bites or Itches, It's Biology.

If It Shifts and Settles, It's Geology.

If It Bubbles and Fizzes, It's Chemistry.

If It Just Won't Work, It's Physics.

If It Is Out of this World, It's Space Science.

If It Confuses Everyone, It's Physical Science.

If It Makes Our Earth Last Longer, It's Ecology.

If It Lets You Eat And Breathe, It's Botany.

If It Creeps and Crawls, It's Zoology.

If It Bugs You, It's Entomology.

If It Turns Ideas Into Reality, It's Engineering.

If It Opens Our Eyes To The Natural World, It's Science."

We are honored to be one of fewer than five percent of districts across the nation to earn the EVERFI Student Impact Champion designation. Our educators are dedicated to teaching the whole child because we know that it not only impacts how healthy and productive students are during their time with Carnegie Elementary, but also their well-being and success far beyond the K-12 years.
