Based on the complexity of the master Schedule, budget constraints and changes in student enrollment, it may be necessary for SCHS Administration to open or close sections of the master schedule which result in changes to student schedules and course offerings. Because the majority of SCHS offerings are yearlong courses, mid-year course and schedule changes generally are not made.
Parent and student-initiated course change requests will not be accepted after the course selection process concludes at the end of the previous school year (June). Since the master schedule is planned with your student’s specific course requests in mind, late changes cannot be accommodated.
Through School Registration Days, the first two weeks of school and the assigned schedule change period for 2nd trimester, counselors see students to make necessary course schedule changes for the following reasons only:
*Please Note, as of the 2019-2020 academic year, we will not accept 3rd Trimester schedule changes; students should plan accordingly and submit all schedule change requests for 3rd trimester during the 2 nd trimester change period (refer to the change periods below)
Examples of Accepted Schedule Change Requests
Assigned the wrong course (for example, a sophomore placed in English 4, not English 2)
Less than fifteen (15) courses on the yearlong course schedule.
A period conflict between two or more courses prevents completion of a full schedule (for example, two course selections both meet only during period 2).
Failed a course in spring trimester and did not make it up during the summer
Passed an approved summer school course.
Examples of Schedule Changes we Cannot Accept
Requests for a specific teacher, trimester, or period
Required grade level courses cannot be dropped
AP courses cannot be dropped without teacher, department chair, administrative and parental consent
Teacher-initiated course changes can be made within the first thirteen (13) school days of a trimester. Approval of teacher-initiated changes requires a completed and signed Course Level Change Form be turned into the counselor. The reasons a teacher will initiate a course change are:
The student does not possess the knowledge or skills required to succeed, or
The student lacks the necessary prerequisites for the course.
