The Career Technical Education (CTE) Transitions program identifies high school courses comparable to local community college courses and creates articulation agreements between them. These agreements allow a student who receives a “B” or better in an articulated course at their high school to earn college credit without paying any tuition or fees. Students must complete a community college application and petition for college credit form; necessary for receiving their college credit. Credit is applied to the students' community college transcript one semester after finishing the high school course.
Sage Creek hosts Mira Costa Community College course(s) on campus during the academic day as a means to give SCHS students access to college coursework and staff at their home campus. Starting in the 2017-2018 school year, SCHS hosted MATH 265/260 Differential Equations & Calculus & Analytic Geometry class for prepared students. Students can potentially earn four (4) college units per high school trimester term. SCHS would like to expand the program and offer additional dual enrollment sections in the future.
Students who want to complete a high school or community college course to remediate a poor grade or for additional credits outside of SCHS and would like the course included on their SCHS transcript must submit an Off Campus Course Permission Form to their counselor for pre-approval before beginning the course. Off Campus Course Permission forms are available on the SCHS website under Counseling/Forms.
High school students who want to concurrently enroll in a community college course need to complete the following:
Have completed at least their 9th grade year with a 2.0 GPA
Apply for admission online directly to the community college
Submit a community college Concurrent Enrollment Permit signed by their SCHS counselor
Take the English or math placement test, if required
Request and pay to enroll in their selected course
Bring proof of their course enrollment to their SCHS counselor
To have the community college course added to their SCHS transcripts, students must have an official transcript sent directly to the SCHS Registrar. Academic units earned at the college are transferred to the SCHS transcript with the following conversion formula, 1.5 to 2.0 college units equal five (5) nonweighted SCHS credits and 3.0 to 4.0 college units equal 10 non-weighted SCHS credits.
Please Note: No more than the equivalent of forty (40) SCHS credits taken as new, first-time credit off campus or at the community college can be transferred to meet the 230 total credits required for SCHS graduation. Please see your counselor if you are interested in taking an off-campus or community college course.
