Makeup & Hair Guidelines
All cast members are required to wear stage makeup because stage lighting can be very intense and often washes out the facial features and expressions.
Please review the instructions below to ensure your student is ready for our upcoming rehearsals and performances.
Getting Started
Before you shop, please take a moment to watch this Basic Stage Makeup Tutorial Video (approx. 10 minutes). It’s a great way to see why stage makeup looks a bit more "dramatic" up close.
Your Student's Personal Makeup Kit
To maintain health and hygiene, we ask that each family provide a personal makeup kit for their child. Please place all items in a Ziploc bag clearly labeled with your child's First/Last Name and Character Name.
Most required items are available at local drugstores (CVS, Walgreens, etc.). Links are provided below for reference, but purchasing in person is recommended to find the best shade match.
Required for All Cast Members
(1) Foundation: Choose a cream-based, full-coverage, matte finish foundation. It should be one shade darker than your child’s natural skin tone.
Recommended: Revlon Colorstay Full Cover Foundation (Matte)
(2) Setting Powder: A pressed powder in the same shade as the foundation to prevent shine.
Recommended: Revlon Colorstay Pressed Powder
(3) Eyebrow/Eyeliner: To define the eyes. Should match the eyebrows or be one shade darker.
Recommended: Wet ‘n Wild Ultimate Eyebrow Pencil or Wet ‘n Wild Kohl Eyeliner in "Pretty in Mink"
(4) Lipstick/Lip Crayon:
Male Characters & Children: A matte, neutral brownish-pink shade (1 shade darker than natural lips).
Adult Female Characters: A deep pink or mauve (bright colors are fine!).
Oompa Loompas: Vibrant character colors, according to your student's assigned Oompa Loompa color (orange, purple, green, or black) *Black Oompa Loompa will wear silver.
Recommended: Orange Lipstick, Purple Lipstick, Green Lipstick, Silver Lipstick
Orange Eyeshadow, Purple Eyeshadow, Green Eyeshadow, Silver Eyeshadow
Optional, Recommended, or Depending On Role
Blush: While some will be available, having your own is more sanitary and ensures a color you like.
Primer: Great for protecting the skin and keeping makeup in place under hot lights.
Makeup Sponges: For a smooth, even application.
Mascara and Eye Shadow: For Adult Female Roles
Makeup Kit Checklist
For your convenience, please use this Makeup Checklist to be sure your child has everything they need. Please also include a hairbrush in your child’s Ziplock bag.
Hairstyle Requirements
Specific styles will be assigned to each character. Please note the following for all performers:
No "Wispy" Hair: Please ensure hair is styled away from the face. Loose strands can stick to makeup and, more importantly, cause static interference with the microphones.
All Oompa Loompas: All Oompa Loompas will wear Space Buns. These should be tight and secure.
*We recognize that preparing Makeup & Hair for stuent at home may not be feasible for every family. If possible, please have your cast member arrive at dress rehearsals/performances in their base makeup and assigned hairstyle. We will happily assist students who need help once they arrive.
Important Dates
If possible, please have your child arrive at the school in their base makeup and assigned hairstyle for the following dates:
Monday 3/16 & Tuesday 3/17: Dress Rehearsals
Wednesday 3/18: Makeup Rehearsal (if needed)
Thursday 3/19 – Saturday 3/21: PERFORMANCES!
If you need a hand with hair or makeup, don't worry! Our team will be available at the school to assist students once they arrive.
