One of the main objectives of Outdoor Education is to enable students to enjoy and explore the pleasures of God as revealed in his marvellous creation. Students will explore models of leadership, responsibility and group work in a series of challenging contexts beyond the usual classroom environment.
In addition, it aims to raise the level of interest and involvement of young people in recreational pursuits. In doing so it seeks to develop positive personal qualities within the students.
This is achieved through introducing students to a variety of environmental issues and practical activities. It involves a number of compulsory expeditions, which are designed to challenge and extend students (COVID dependent)
The aim of this course is to provide for students who wish to enhance and extend their interests and abilities in Environmental Studies and Outdoor Education. Students will develop skills in research, analysing and organisation of information, communicating ideas and information through field studies and research tasks. Through the outdoor education activities students will develop competencies in planning and organising activities, working with others in teams, using technology and solving problems.
Due to the nature of the high personal interest in the activities, students develop a responsible and confident attitude, while achieving tangible outcomes.
Outdoor Education and Environmental Studies is a multifaceted course which promotes the development of the individual. this is achieved through a number of challenging outdoor/bushcraft activities designed to promote decision making, life skills, group work and a healthy lifestyle. It offers a holistic approach to learning, for, while learning to appreciate the environment, students develop skills and strategies that can be directly related to life experiences. It also expose students to a growth industry, in a sensitive way, that has a significant vocational potential.
Outdoor Education is a challenging and rewarding course, which will extend students in the important areas of:
social living skills (being able to work within a group and take on leadership roles)
environmental education (learning about God's creation and the relationship between man and the environment)
leisure skills (taking part in recreational activities)
outdoor pursuits (learning outdoor recreational skills)
