Hook Week: Scavenger Hunt (Geography)
LKS2 enjoyed a fantastic scavenger hunt, where we had to use our knowledge of directions to help find the clues. This helped us to put together our Guiding Question: ‘Why should we protect our beautiful planet?’ As we used the 8-point compass, we grew in confidence in being able to use our vocabulary. We enjoyed the different activities that ranged from puzzle making to code breaking.

Hook Week: Art work (Geography)
LKS2 have been working on art work, which will form a part of their final product. The children have used their art skills to apply water paint onto cratridge paper, cut out a silhouette and use oil pastels to create different Arctic patterns. We drew inspiration from the book 'The Last Bear', which we have enjoyed exploring in our reading sessions. They thought about the tones and shades they wanted to use, based on Arctic landscapes.
Once finished, the children cut out their Polar Bear silhouettes, ready to stick on. Keep your eyes peeled out for the final product announcement - we're all very excited to share what it is!

LKS2 have had a great day on their trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. This has really hooked us into our new Expedition, where we’re looking into answering the Guiding Question Why should we protect our beautiful planet?
We loved seeing all of the different wild animals that are on our door step, especially the Polar Bears, which we will be looking into great detail in future Expedition lessons.
The children were fantastic with their behaviour and should be really proud of how they represented Carcroft today. We will be sharing a video soon of our day, so here is a sneak peak!

Songwriting (7.2.22)
LKS2 have had a fantastic treat of writing their charity song with Mr Hewitt from the Trust. He was an expert that we really needed, as we have written the verse to our song.
We used our rhyming knowledge from poetry in our first Expedition of the year, to be able to raise awareness of vital environmental issues. We loved being able to think of the lyrics and then have Mr Hewitt play the instruments for our song.
We sang our hearts out to our lyrics and the chorus. It's been a great day and it's really built up our excitement for the song. We can't wait to get into the studio and begin recording!

Guitar Experience (25.2.22)
LKS2 have had a great time getting to play guitars. This was so that they were hooked into their music case study. This was a new experience for Year 3, as for most of them, they had never picked up an instrument. Year 4 are becoming expert guitar players.
Our music and guitar expert really praised the listening skills of the children and how engaged they were with their learning. They loved joining in singing the songs with the Ukelele along to the Greatest Showman and then singing the chorus to True Colours.
This was a really lovely morning and I know that Year 3 are really excited to continue their guitar journey into Year 4 next year! Check out the images below:
