Homework:
School-Age: Homework pages are sent weekly for students with articulation errors. Copies of homework pages can be found under the 'Homework' tab in the upper right-hand corner of this page. Only students who have mastery of sound placement are given homework. If your student is not receiving weekly homework pages, they probably haven't achieved sufficient mastery on targeted sounds. Sometimes easier sounds will be selected for home practice while your child works on increasing accuracy at school.
Preschool: Preschool students who have goals addressing vocabulary are sent picture cards. Each set contains 10-13 line-drawings. Whenever possible, point out actual objects in the student's environment. When your child achieves the mastery level (80 or 90%), a new set of vocabulary pictures will be sent home.
Many times a student appears to have mastered a vocabulary set at home yet you do not receive new pictures. In order to insure mastery across environments, the student must show proficiency at the level outlined in their IEP. This could be 80-90% over 2 consecutive therapy sessions. This may take longer to achieve at school especially if a student's accuracy fluctuates.
Homework scores are calculated quarterly. A percentage of returned homework will be reported on your student's Progress Report. Home practice greatly impacts your child's speech therapy success.
