An Eye For An Eye

Using AI, AR and interactive web experiences to promote the short film An Eye for an Eye – which explores the journey of a woman escaping the shackles of her abusive partner – using unique art pieces to generate conversation on the matter.

My Name is Haider Mahboob, and my project is called An Eye for An Eye named after the short film that I currently have in production. I wanted to create a digital experience to promote the film and spread awareness about the theme of the film itself which is domestic violence.

I spent my time researching various techniques so that I would reach my desired result, this meant spending time looking at different AI software’s available and also graphic design tools. I came across a few that were recommended to me by Imran such as midjourney and I spent some time experimenting with that. Then I realised that it would be cool to kind of use the images I’d already taken during production, feed them into the AI software and go from there. So I used a software called Dall E which allowed me to do so and combining that with a different software runwayml I managed to achieve the results that I wanted.

Researching Domestic violence facts wasn’t difficult as there are many government statistic websites where they are readily available. I then put them over them graphics.

An example brainstorm from earlier on in the process.

Next, I used a software called Artivive, this is an AR software which allows you to turn 2d images into AR experiences. I used davinci resolve to edit the videos and layer the text over them and then, upload the poster and the video to the artivive website which allows me to create the ar experience.

When the posters are scanned using the artivive app they will each change to videos with AI art that will present facts about domestic violence l ike the example below.

For now I have these images on a website, however I plan on creating an in person ‘easter egg hunt’ So I will need to print out bigger versions of the posters. The posters will be put in different places and the audience will be able to look for different posters and they will lead to the actual screening location of the short film itself.

I also plan on partnering with local mental health charities and collaborate them to maybe have these as leaflets/posters in their spaces.
