Review and assessment of student learning is an ongoing process which allows teachers to determine whether to move on or offer additional instruction and support. It is guided by a lesson’s content and language objectives.

Assessment occurs throughout a lesson to determine if students are understanding and applying content concepts. Assessment must be linked to instruction and needs to target the lesson objectives. Checking for understanding is informal and is not intended to be graded or evaluated according to set criteria.
