• Born in Charlottesville, VA -- raised in Wilmington, NC

• Salutatorian Class of 1993, Cape Fear Academy

• BA in English with highest distinction from UNC Chapel Hill with minors in Creative Writing and African American Studies

•  M.Ed. in Curriculum Studies for Equity in Education program at UNC Wilmington

• Teacher of Journalism and English for 24 years

• English Department Chair for grades 6-12 at CFA for 10 years 

• Director of CFA Center for Writing and Reasoning (Cameron 338)

• Member of Leadership Wilmington Class of 2018

• Completed 50 Day Outward Bound course in Florida Everglades and Costa Rica + Attended 10 Outward Bound trips with CFA seniors as accompanying adult
