All incoming 7th grade students are required to read Free Lunch by Rex Ogle over the summer. This powerful memoir explores themes of poverty, resilience, and identity through the eyes of a sixth-grade boy navigating school, friendships, and a difficult home life. Students should read the book carefully and come prepared to participate in a Socratic Seminar during the first week of school.
📌 What to do:
Read Free Lunch in full.
Annotate or take notes on important moments, key themes, and questions that come to mind.
Think deeply about topics like fairness, family, and courage.
🗣️ Socratic Seminar in August:
Be ready to share your insights, ask thoughtful questions, and discuss how this story connects to your own experiences and the world around you.
