Throughout the year we will be exploring the different places and people that make up our world while developing important historical skills. We will be analyzing the impact that geography has on the cultural development of each region and looking at how regions around the world are interconnected. The course will be a combination of learning about the history of the region and current issues facing the region. Throughout the year students will develop critical skills to begin thinking as historians, including analyzing primary and secondary documents, assessing reliability of sources, comparing information, interpreting maps, and crafting and presenting arguments.
Over the course of the year we will be covering human rights, the five themes of geography, and current events as well as the following regions:
Sub-Saharan Africa
Southwest Asia & North Africa
Latin America
South & Southeast Asia
1. How have the prominent physical geographic features of the region shaped its development?
2. How have various cultures influenced this region?
3. What issues face this region today and what are the possible solutions to these issues?
4. How has globalization affected this region?
Students will be assessed in a variety of ways throughout the year, including but not limited to:
