Why are semiprivate lessons limited to only two years?
Semiprivate lessons are provided as an economic alternative to private lessons where the individualized learning needs and musical interests of students can be fully met. As students advance, their individual needs must be addressed for them to master specific musical challenges. The two year limit ensures student advancement through private lessons.
Why are semiprivate lessons not available for percussion, voice or piano?
Percussion, voice, and piano require individualized instruction due to equipment size and needs. The study of voice requires individual focus on your physical talents and needs.
Is tuition assistance available to families that cannot afford lessons?
Yes. Scholarships are available through the generosity of MusicCounts! Funds will be disbursed based on financial need and merit. All information shared in the Scholarship Application is seen by the Performing Arts Coordinator only and will remain confidential. Students must play the instrument for which they are requesting scholarship in a school group and have at least one year of playing experience. Application for scholarship does not ensure award of scholarship. Scholarships are sometimes partial payments. Scholarships will be offered for Session I or Session II or in some cases full year. Applicant should apply by August 15th for scholarship consideration for Session I and will be notified by September 15th. Applicants should apply by October15th for scholarship consideration for Session II and will be notified of award by November 1st. The Scholarship Request Form is required for all students who would like to be considered for a scholarship during the school year.
May I pay tuition on a monthly basis?
Yes. Tuition may be paid monthly. Please email eckersleyc@cantonma.org to set up a monthly payment plan.
Can my child take lessons on more than one instrument?
Yes, many students take lessons on two instruments. It is recommended that students understand they must make a commitment to practicing for lessons on two instruments a week.
Why do voice lessons start no earlier than grade 7?
Voice lessons focus on the voice in ways that may harm undeveloped voices. Lessons are deliberately postponed until the voice is ready to be challenged and developed for singing. Although not as dramatic as with boys, girls’ voices undergo change as they mature. Reach out if to be considered for exceptions.
Can adults take lessons from the Encore Music Lesson Program?
Yes, adults may take lessons by simply registering for private lessons on any instrument.
Are school-owned instruments available for my child?
A limited number of school-owned instruments are available through the instrument borrowing program. Please email eckersleyc@cantonma.org to find out about this option.
