In June 2022, Canopy friends gathered to mark 25 years of partnership, planting, advocacy, and more. Together, we toasted the many tree champions across sectors and cities who have nurtured a thriving urban forest, and envisioned how we'll continue to grow life-giving urban tree canopy for all.
Recognizing 25th Anniversary Tree Champion Honorees
Throughout Canopy’s history, tree champions from across sectors and communities have lent their unique talents and dedication to plant and care for trees where they are needed the most, nurture young leaders, and advocate for tree-filled neighborhoods.
As part of our 25th anniversary festivities, Canopy was proud and grateful to honor eight champions, whose contributions continue to make a lasting impact, along with the key groups they represent.
Weaving a tapestry of values
Dr. Nalini Nadkarni offered the metaphor of weaving a tapestry, combining ideas from social, economic, and spiritual realms to help connect us to trees, to nature, and to each other. She also reminded us that we all have a unique and special strand to contribute—as we say at Canopy, it takes a village to grow the urban forest!
Celebrating impact, past and present
An interactive timeline at the Deeply Rooted event explored Canopy's evolution and impact over 25 years, from it's roots as a small group of intrepid volunteers to the sector-leading urban forestry organization it is today. The displays below offer a summary.
