Our final week of school will include several activities.
Field Day will be on Tuesday, May 26th.
On Wednesday, May 27th we will take our field trip to the Carnegie History Museum.
Thursday, May 28th will be time to review our math finals we and will announce the winners of our "Baseball Math World Series". Field trip to the Dairy Queen! Don't forget to bring your money.
Friday, May 29th is our last day of school. Yearbooks will be distributed and students will enjoy watching the school Talent Show.

This week we continue our final unit called “The Math World Series”. This unit involves activities filled with critical and higher-level thinking skills. Students will use the math skills they have developed throughout the year to compete in teams to solve math problems. Math finals are Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19. Students will receive two Study Guides this week to help them prepare for math finals. These Study Guides contains practice problems that will be similar of those on the finals.
In addition, students will receive an “informational” study guide. This study guide lists the lessons and topics for students to study.

This week we will introduce Ch. 9: Volume, Surface Area and Percents. We will begin with calculating the volume of three-dimensional solids known as right rectangular prisms. We will practice visualizing three-dimensional solids and how their parts fit together. To do this, we will use “flattened” shapes called nets.

We will begin Ch. 5 this week. Students will build their knowledge of multiplying fractions by examining portions of fractions. Then, they will connect this process to determining the products of mixed numbers. They will reason about fraction division using models. Students will have a quiz on Friday. This quiz will include vocabulary, adding and subtracting mixed numbers, and evaluating expressions with exponents.

We are currently working on the second half of Chapter 4. Students will work with Number Relationships as they learn to use ratios to compare quantities. We will examine ratios of predator and prey fishes and revisit the trail mix problem from previous chapters. Students will learn about the ways a ratio can be represented and use ratios and ratio language to compare parts. The Ch. 4 Test is scheduled for Friday, December 5th.

This week we will begin Chapter 4: Variables and Ratios. Students will learn to write expressions with variables and learn about equivalent expressions. In part two, students will learn about using ratios to describe relationships between shapes of different sizes. In addition, we will begin to practice using the algorithm for long division. Chapter 4 only includes seven lessons, so we will complete the chapter by Thanksgiving break and test the first week of December.
