Anatomy & Physiology Course Description
Prerequisite: Biology with a “B” or better. Open to serious sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
This is an elective, comprehensive course intended for students what are interested in learning about the human body and those who are interested in pursuing a health related career.
As an elective course, A&P can proceed at a faster pace. The Anatomy components include a large volume of memorized material. The Physiology aspects apply and delve deeper into Biological concepts.
Advanced concepts introduced during Biology will be revisited in Anatomy and Physiology relating to the human body and its homeostatic mechanism. Throughout the course, considerable emphasis is placed on the interpretation and application of physiological principles. There is heavy emphasis on individual library research, writing, and oral presentation.
Students will have multiple opportunities to work with preserved specimens such as a cow’s eye, a sheep’s heart and brain, and perhaps a fetal pig. Throughout this course, students will investigate the anatomy and physiology of various body systems and be able to apply cumulative knowledge in order to analyze disturbances in homeostasis.
Anatomy and Physiology should NOT be substituted for chemistry. ALL STUDENTS WILL DISSECT A VARIETY OF PRESERVED SPECIMENS TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THIS COURSE.

The grading scale used for this course is as follows:
