Preview: Look at the cover. Read the title. Take a picture walk.
Question: Ask who, what, when, where, and how. Decide what makes sense as you read and attempt to decode unfamiliar words.
Predict: Ask yourself about what will happen. Make predictions as you complete your picture walk and read to see if they are correct.
Infer: Think about what the context clues tell you. Use the details to think about what the author wants you to understand.
Connect: How can you relate to the characters and events? Compare and Contrast the text to other stories you have read or heard in the past.
Summarize: Ask yourself what the main ideas of the story are. Draw conclusions and review the sequence of events.
Evaluate: What did you learn from the story? Think about whether or not what you read was important. Did you enjoy the text?
