Infant Room: Ashley McLaughlin
Beginning at 6 weeks of age through 2 years old children are in the Infant Room. This room is designed with your child in mind. We follow each child's daily schedule a closely as possible while they are with us. There are age appropriate areas for play, feeding, napping, and diapering in the room. We also have a walled outdoor play area that is suitable for children ages 12 months-36 months. Children may also be taken on stroller/wagon rides around the High School facilities as time and weather permit.
Children who are breastfeeding are encouraged to have their parent come in as often as possible to feed them. Please message the teacher on Brightwheel at least 5 minutes before your arrival so that your child is ready for you. We will store frozen breastmilk for up to 4 months. Please make sure it is labeled with your child's first and last name, as well as the date it was expressed.
Bottles need to be already made with the appropriate amount for your child. Each bottle will only be used once each day, so if your child needs 4 bottles during the day please send all 4 bottles filled. They will be kept refrigerated and warmed using warm water in a crock pot just before a feeding. As children move to solid foods, high chairs are available for teacher fed feeding and exploring self feeding.
Toddler Room: Claire Schwalm and Christie Pierson
From ages 2 - 3 years old children are in the Toddler Room. There is a more predictable routine with breakfast each morning around 8:00 am, free play (either inside or outside), a developmentally appropriate learning time, lunch around 11:00 am, nap time, afternoon free play, and afternoon snack. All meals and drinks are provided by parents and students are served at the tables and eat together as a group. Children also learn to take their dirty dishes to the wash bin, wipe their faces, and wash their hands after each meal. Diapers are checked regularly and changed as needed; potty training is encouraged as each child shows readiness .
Children will have fun playing with age appropriate toys, reading, and listening to books, playing with sensory items such as play dough, and running around outside.
Preschool Room: Debbie Deardorff and Marisela Arellano
Children ages 3 years and fully potty trained up through those who are 5 and not yet in kindergarten are in our Preschool Room. This room offers the most predictable structure and routine in our center. Breakfast is around 8:00 am each day and served as a group at the tables. Next children have some free play time until preschool from 9:00-11:00am Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. During this time students begin to learn about the alphabet, doing one letter per week, as well as colors, shapes, and numbers. These concepts are taught through circle time, activities, books, projects, and incorporated into daily play time as well. Children will also have at least one outside play time in our fully enclosed, preschool outdoor area. After preschool is lunch time where students sit at the tables and eat as a group, and then a quiet/nap time for all children. While we understand that not all children will fall asleep, all children are expected to lay quietly on their cots, and look at books for about an hour. When everyone is awake, around 1:00 children can help fold their blankets and put their cots away and play quietly, draw, or look at books. 3:00 is snack time, once again served at the tables, then children pack up and play until they are picked up.
