Welcome to the laboratory of Bioorganic Chemistry, lead by Professor Carlos Afonso (CA).
The research conducted at CA's Lab spans over the interface of organic chemistry and biology, aiming at the discovery of synthetic methods and chemical probes that, in association with biomedical scientists, may be further explored to address important biological problems.
The Bioorganic Group is part of the Technology Hub at iMed.ULisboa, a research institute based at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon. iMed.ULisboa is dedicated to the development of innovative medicines, spanning the entire process from bench to patient. To achieve this, the institute is structured into three main hubs: Scientific, Technological, and Translational.
Within this framework, our group serves as the synthetic organic chemistry backbone of the Technology Hub, focusing on delivering chemical solutions to address biological and therapeutic challenges.
