Carlos A. M. Afonso

Full Professor

Carlos A. M. Afonso (born 1962) is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon. He earned his Ph.D. in 1990 under the supervision of Professor Christopher Maycock. Following this, he held positions as Assistant Professor at the New University of Lisbon and later as Associate Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon (2004–2010).

In 1990, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine under the guidance of W. B. Motherwell. He also undertook sabbatical research at the University of Bath, UK (1997–1998, with Jonathan Williams) and at the University of Toronto (with Robert Batey).

Professor Afonso is the author or co-author of approximately 160 peer-reviewed publications, as well as three book chapters, one edited book, and three patents.
