We'd love to hear from you!
Learned or tried something new? Started grad school? Got married? Had a surprise Onas connection at school or work? Spent time catching up with Camp friends?
If you send in your news and photos to friends@camponas.org, we'll include them in the next newsletter (with your ok, of course!). Please use the subject line "Alumni News." We can’t wait to hear from you!
Sarah is living in Oakland, California. She recently began working as a Health Program Planner for the San Francisco Department of Public Health and loves it! Working for the city is challenging and fun.
On a recent trip to Washington, DC, Sarah and her boyfriend had the honor of visiting Gus May’s breakfast taco restaurant, La Tejana. The tacos were bonkers and it was wonderful to see Gus.
Sarah is still an avid arts-and-crafts-er, and has recently gotten really into knitting. She just finished stitching this chicken—her first 3D project! She also regularly makes banana oatmeal a la Miss Peggy (lots of butter and brown sugar), and misses Camp always.
Mike ran into Max at Produce Junction! Here's a photo of Max that Mike took during the encounter. Mike and Max are both camper and staff alumni.
Katie got a tattoo of the Onas well. It’s not her first ink, but it is her first tattoo to honor Camp (a surprise to herself and others!). The tattoo is based on a photo taken by summer staff member and camper alum, Morgan B. The artist is Tyler @pleaseadnthanks.tatto on Instagram).
La Tejana, the Mount Pleasant, DC restaurant that alumni Gus and his wife Ana-Marie started in 2019, was recently featured on the 2023 MICHELIN guide for DC and received a Bib Gourmand Award!
The guide writes “Once a pop-up, their cooking has found a home wedged in a strip of restaurants in Mt. Pleasant. Quick and efficient, this simple counter serves just coffee and a handful of tacos mined from a time living in Texas. Their breakfast tacos offer a singular kind of satisfaction, each one made with a superb flour tortilla kept warm in tightly wrapped foil. Fillings include soft scrambled eggs, creamy pinto beans, queso and meats like bacon, chorizo and even brisket. These are uncomplicated, unfussy bundles of joy that don’t take reservations or require any other kind of long-term planning.”
If you’re in DC, visit their restaurant for some delicious breakfast tacos!
Congratulations to Gus and Ana-Maria on this honor!
Camper and staff alum Sabrina Brier, most recently known for her comedic content on social media, guest starred on Abbott Elementary on Feb. 21, 2023! Check out Season 3, Episode 4 to see her TV debut! Congrats Sabrina!
