Emotional Walls
What does this mean for me?
People build emotional barriers around themselves, to shut themselves out from reality. This could be due to a build up of trauma throughout their life, or an unconscious effort by your brain to try to protect you. I think that people who have these walls could end up very lonely and potentially in a bad state. If you have an emotional wall due to someone betraying you like cheating, fake friends or someone going from ally to enemy, you could have serious unconscious trust issues, preventing you from having good emotional bonds in future relationships.
Spoken Word
Why have I made this selection?
I like writing poems that include rhyme, short sentences and that actually have a message to bring across. I’m also not great with making a song and have no feel for rhythm. I think a t-shirt is an easy out and doesn’t give me enough space to put the message into it.
Where will I share my work?
I could record my poem/spoken word and share it on my website and youtube channel. This would give people a platform to watch on, they could share their feedback and opinions in the comment section. The like to dislike ratio shows the overall enjoyment and my website will help it gain publicity.

Spoken Word Research
What is it?
A person who puts up emotional walls, does this subconsciously in an effort to shut themselves out from reality. This could be due to a build up of trauma throughout their life, or a particular phobia that got really out of hand. If you have an emotional wall due to someone betraying you like cheating, fake friends or someone going from ally to enemy, you could have serious subconscious trust issues, preventing you from having good emotional bonds in future relationships.
Why do people do this?
People with emotional walls feel safe within them, they cannot see the negative sides it has on their mental and emotional health. They often don’t even realize that these walls have formed from reasonable boundaries they had before. Sometimes they have anxiety or trauma that contributes to these walls. Everyone has a different life, so it’s hard to find a specific reason people build these walls.
How can I change that?
Talk to someone about your problems, like a parent, therapist or older sibling. Let out all the hurt you have stored away, don’t worry about being vulnerable, tell someone you know well and have a positive relationship with, then you will have nothing to fear. Find what emotional safety looks like for you, this will help you strive for a place where you do not need your emotional armour. Build your resilience, recover from being hurt with a passion to do better, step out of your comfort zone and enjoy life without these walls blocking your every step.

All these events and people and
Put up these walls
Realization strikes but it's too late
Stuck and no one can relate
Reasons we will take to the grave
Ask again we will not cave
After time it feels safer than without
Breaking them down spreads nothing but doubt
Open up and vulnerability is our guest
If they want to listen they are blessed
Taking of our armour and recover from hurt
Our hearts open for acceptance thrown to us like a dart
