Identity Project
This project started by taking a gallery walk. We walked around the art studio, looking at many different pieces, and choosing our favorites. Now you are doing the same thing. Taking a gallery walk. (But not choosing favorites) We wrote about these pieces, and found some on different art museum websites. Then we had a big brainstorming session. We had to pick things that stand out about ourselves. We really had to look deep inside who we all are as people, and of course, look into our identity! That’s what ties us all together. We are all different, all unique. That’s why it was so hard to narrow down on things that make us “us”.Then we started brainstorming out art pieces. We had amazing options. Some of us decided to do ceramic or air dry pieces, others did acrylics, and more options were cardboard, mixed media, and even working with fabric or digitally. We worked on these for weeks, and we really picked and honed down on our skills to make this happen. We hope you enjoy our 6th grade Identity Projects!
Masks
Along with our Identity Project, we also created masks. These were created with many ideas. Some people wanted to make masks that match. Others wanted to create crazy shapes out of plaster. Some people took the nature route, others took the modern route, but all are amazing. We started with a sketch, followed by creating with plaster or working on things to add detail to our masks. Some people started painting right away. All of us had to write our artist statement. We wrote these about our experiences and our feelings toward our masks. It took a very long time, but we are so proud of our outcome.
