Empower students and staff to be effective users of information and ideas by providing varied resources, collaborative instruction, and intentional opportunities that enable them to be critical thinkers, purposeful readers, skilled researchers, and ethical users of information for life-long learning and enjoyment.
It is the goal of the CCMS Library to empower all students to achieve information literacy, develop a love of reading, and to become life-long learners.
The library will be the information center of the school providing physical and intellectual access to information in all formats, print and electronic, with a wide range of subjects and levels of difficulty that represent a diversity of opinions and social and cultural perspectives.
Students will become information literate by using a variety of library resources and technologies to locate, select, evaluate, interpret, organize, and present information relevant to a specific need or problem.
The library media staff will collaborate with the school community to fully integrate library and information skills instruction into the curriculum and collaborate to improve student literacy.
Students will function as independent learners and pursue areas of personal interest through reading and research in the library, using library resources as well as resources beyond the school site.
The library program will provide an inviting, welcoming, accessible, and stimulating place for individual and group student and school community use.
Students may borrow three items at one time.
Books and audiovisual items circulate for three weeks and may be renewed multiple times unless a hold has been placed on the item.
Renewals: students do not need to have items with them in order to renew them unless the items have been checked out for more than three months. As long as the student has the item, he or she may continue to renew all year unless someone has placed a hold on the item.
Returns: students should return all items to the book return slot at the circulation desk by the due date. They should not hand their items to the library staff, a friend, or to a teacher to return.
Holds: Students may request to put books on hold. When holds are ready, items may be checked out to the students and delivered to them in homeroom if time allows.
Students CANNOT check out items in a teacher’s name (unless the teacher gives verbal/written confirmation that it is okay with him or her).
Students are responsible for returning materials to the library in a timely manner. If an item is overdue, the student will receive the following notices:
1st notice: Notification of overdue item--return or renew by specified date
2nd notice: Parent called and notified that item must be returned or paid for by specified date.
3rd notice: Fee for item is added in Infinite Campus. Student may be restricted from additional checkouts.
Yes! We may not be able to put the book on the shelf for check-out (sometimes we can, just depends if each book meets our selection policy), but we can use the books in our school programming or donate them to a local charity. You can also make monetary donations
