Long-Term Academic Plan

Long-Term Academic Plan

for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year

Campbell County Public Schools has been developing a long-term academic plan in response to the recent school closure due to COVID-19. We understand the incredible strain the closure has placed on our community and want to provide as much academic support as possible with the understanding that our students need to most of all feel loved and reassured during this unprecedented and difficult event.

Campbell County Public Schools will provide students with opportunities to make academic progress that focuses on content essential for future academic success and for completion in credit bearing courses. These resources will assist students in staying connected to the school and foster the important student-teacher relationship. These resources will be delivered primarily through online modules for those who have internet access and printed instructional packets for those students who do not have internet access in their homes.

Campbell County Public Schools expects our seniors to graduate, our other students to get promoted to the next grade level, and for learning to continue through the remainder of the school year. We will work to ensure equity regardless of technology accessibility, income level, English Language learner status, and/or special needs. Learning gaps identified during this closure will be addressed in a variety of ways, and while we cannot replicate the typical school day, we can ensure that students have opportunities to make academic progress.

Beginning Monday, March 30, elementary resources for English and math will be posted on the Campbell County Schools website. Printed instructional packets of the same material will also be made available at the students’ home school for pick up. Families will be able to receive these instructional packets between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., the same window of time as food pick up. If you are unable to pick up a packet, please call the school to make other arrangements. Teachers will be communicating with students regularly to check on their well-being and monitor their academic progress. Completion of the work is highly encouraged to avoid loss of academic skills during this closure. While the work is not formally graded, teachers will monitor student work and as appropriate, give feedback that will help current and future learning.

Secondary (6-12)

Beginning Monday, March 30, secondary resources will be delivered electronically from our teachers directly to our secondary students’ email addresses. Starting March 30, we ask students to check their email and regularly communicate with their teachers. Instructional packets will be available at the students’ home school for those who have limited access to technology and the internet. Families will be able to receive these instructional packets between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Parents, please call the school prior to picking up your child’s packet, so administration can prepare to bring the packet to your car and provide additional assistance for students who may have unique learning needs. If you are unable to pick up a packet, please call the school to make other arrangements. While the work is not formally graded, teachers will monitor student work and as appropriate, give feedback that will help current and future learning. It is important that teachers monitor work completion to ensure students received the instruction and can progress to the next level.

Additional Considerations:

Special Education

Special education teachers will work to provide appropriate instructional activities for students. This may include providing accommodations or modifications to the general curriculum content that is provided, contacting students to monitor and assist with the activities, or designing special learning activities for students to do at home.

Advanced Placement Courses

College Board has provided guidance regarding student opportunities to take an abbreviated version of their scheduled AP tests. Those students will continue to prepare for their AP tests with assistance from their AP teachers. AP teachers will design a Continuity of Learning Plan and work with their students online to cover material in preparation of the AP tests. Students who do not have internet access should contact their school, and provisions will be made for content accessibility.

CVCC Dual Enrollment

Students participating in Campbell County Public Schools Dual Enrollment Program, including Early College and Stem, will continue to receive instruction from CVCC using an online format. Students who do not have internet access should contact their school, and provisions will be made for content accessibility.

Grades, Standard Credits, Verified Credits, Graduation

The Virginia Department of Education is providing school divisions guidance and solutions concerning graduation requirements, promotion, testing, and attendance during the mandatory shut down that began on the end of the school day on March 13 (Superintendents Memo #77). CCPS will share more detailed information on these items as soon as they are available.

End of Year Report Cards

The division will be providing more information and guidance regarding your students end of year report card and transcripts.

Graduating Class of 2020

The State Superintendent is providing certain waivers to the senior class of 2020. This includes, and is not limited to, sequential elective courses, students enrolled in an economics and personal finance course, certain CTE credentials, and students who have not completed United States and Virginia History. Students will be provided specific support and guidance from their high school administration and counseling department. The division will work with consideration and diligence to ensure all seniors are on track to graduate. Each individual high school will continue their existing practices of support and guidance to address individual students needs as appropriate.

Future Plans

Campbell County Public Schools will evaluate where our students’ learning ended on March 13. After content and learning gaps have been identified, the school division will address when and how we can better guarantee our students will be prepared for success in future courses and programs. CCPS will continue to evaluate plans to provide instruction for content missed during the closure. These plans will include incorporating missed content into the appropriate curriculum and courses students will take during the 2020-2021 school year.

Summer School (K-8) and Credit Recovery (9-12)

The division will provide more information on the availability of 2020 summer school and credit recovery per guidance from the Virginia Department of Education and Governor’s office.
