This plan may be updated based on the most current CDC and VDH guidance closer to the beginning of the school year. We will continue to communicate as any updates are made to this plan.
Beginning March 1, 2022, wearing masks as a response to COVID-19 will be optional for all Campbell County Public Schools’ employees, including bus drivers. Wearing masks will also be optional for students who ride the bus and visitors who enter our schools. We want to thank our employees, parents, and students for adhering to our mitigation strategies throughout the pandemic. We are grateful for your ongoing support.
On January 19, 2022, VDH released Interim Guidance for COVID-19 prevention in Virginia PreK-12 Schools. This guidance is based on three core principles:
Parents are in charge of their children’s health.
Schools must remain open 5 days per week.
The Commonwealth and school division will maintain a safe and healthy environment.
Campbell County Public Schools have maintained vigilance and fidelity towards the implementation of recommended mitigation strategies while maintaining in-person learning for the entirety of the 20-21 and 21-22 school years. We are proud of our staff who have worked to understand, implement, and follow mitigation strategies per CDC and VDH guidance.
The VDH Interim Guidance Documents indicates:
“Mitigation strategies that reduce COVID-19 transmission can be reduced now that effective vaccines are available, and the current predominant variant (Omicron) is causing less severe disease.”
Schools should report only known clusters to VDH. Clusters are defined as 10% of a known and localized population or three persons known to have congregated having a positive diagnosis.
Schools should monitor local disease transmission and consult with local health officials.
Schools should promote vaccinations and the wearing of face coverings.
Based upon this Interim Guidance, CCPS will:
Require all COVID positive individuals and anyone sick to remain at home and encourage them to be tested.
Discontinue quarantine of individual contacts.
Monitor positive cases for clusters and report such to the VDH.
Notify classrooms at the elementary level of positives within the classroom.
Continue to maintain a high state of cleanliness within the buildings.
Encourage vaccinations and mask-wearing as effective mitigation strategies.
Campbell County Public Schools will continue to follow CDC and VDH guidance with respect to Covid Isolation, Quarantine, and Mask Use. On 29 December 2021, the CDC modified COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation requirements. These changes were subsequently adopted by the Virginia Department of Health.
Persons WITH Covid-19
Isolation: People with COVID-19 if asymptomatic or symptoms are resolving will isolate for 5 days. This isolation should continue until symptoms resolve.
Close Contacts of a Covid-19 Positive Person:
Quarantine: Unvaccinated persons or persons who are more than six months out from their second mRNA dose (or more than 2 months after the J&J vaccine) and not yet boosted will quarantine for 5 days.
Individuals who have received their booster shot do not need to be quarantined following an exposure.
For all those exposed, best practice would also include a test for SARS-CoV-2 at day 5 after exposure (not required).
If covid symptoms develop, individuals should immediately quarantine until a negative test confirms symptoms are not attributable to COVID-19.
A close contact is defined as someone within 6 feet of a Covid Positive Person for 15 minutes. For students who are both masked, this distance is 3 feet.
