21-22 CCPS COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions
What are the 21-22 Mask Requirements for Students
Governor Youngkin issued Executive Order #2 earlier this week. Pending any court action, this order goes into effect on January 24, 2022, and allows for families to choose whether their children wear a mask at school. Campbell County Public Schools will comply with this order. We will provide updates if there are any changes as soon as possible.
CCPS recognizes the importance of mitigation strategies to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread. Both the CDC and the VDH indicate that proper masking is an important step to reduce COVID-19 transmission, and we encourage all individuals to properly wear a mask in school.
Executive Order #2 does not apply to school transportation. Any individual utilizing CCPS transportation will be required to wear a mask at all times while riding a school bus or any other school-based transportation in compliance with the Federal Order.
What is a Close Contact:
Close contact means being within 6 feet of a person with COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period or having exposure to the person’s respiratory secretions while they were contagious.
One exception to this rule: In indoor K-12 settings, a student who is within 3-6 feet of an infected student is not considered a close contact as long as both students are wearing masks and the school has other prevention strategies in place.
What is Contact Tracing?
For COVID-19, contact tracing means working to investigate a COVID-19 exposure and informing everyone who has been in close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 that they might have been exposed. CCPS will continue to work with the VDH with case contact tracing for the 21-22 school year.
What are physical distancing requirements:
In general, students are spaced 3 feet apart to the greatest extent possible in order to maintain in-person learning. Students performing physical exercise and band are spaced 6 feet apart to the greatest extent possible.
What is Fully Vaccinated?
A person is considered fully vaccinated if they have met the following criteria:
2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as the Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine
What are the Parent Notification Guidelines for the 2021-22 school year?
CCPS will work with the VDH to notify students and parents if their child is deemed to be a close contact with a known COVID-19 positive individual. CCPS will notify the school community if a series of clusters occurs within a school prompting a change in mitigation measures.
What are the Quarantine and Isolation guidelines?
Quarantine: Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people with close contact with a known infected person should stay home, monitor for symptoms and follow all recommendations for 14 days after their last exposure.
This is the safest option. If you are not able to stay home for 14 days and do not have symptoms, you may leave home earlier:
Counting your date of last exposure as Day 0, after Day 10 without testing; OR
After Day 7 with a negative PCR or antigen test performed on or after Day 5.
If you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you do not need to quarantine or be tested following an exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19, if you show NO symptoms:
You should monitor for any symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days following exposure.
If you experience any symptoms during this period then you should isolate and get tested
If a fully vaccinated person starts to show symptoms of COVID-19 after an exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19, then they should isolate themselves from others, be clinically evaluated for COVID-19, and tested for SARS-CoV-2 if indicated.
Isolation: Individuals who are COVID-19 positive must separate themselves from others until the following criteria are met:
10 days since symptoms first appeared and
24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and
Other symptoms of COVID-19 are improving
In-person vs. Virtual Learning
Campbell County Public Schools will provide In-person learning for all students during the 21-22 school year. Students who opted for an online option for the 21-22 school year may return to in-person learning upon request.
Will schools perform a temperature check upon arrival to school?
No. Temperature checks will not be conducted prior to entering school. Parents are expected to ensure their children are fever free and do not show symptoms of respiratory illness before they arrive at school or enter a school bus.
Will students be marked absent during Quarantine and Isolation?
No. Students will access their learning remotely during quarantine and isolation periods.
