What is the CCPS Online Learning Academy?
Campbell County Public Schools will allow students to make academic progress that focuses on content essential for future academic success and completion in credit-bearing courses.
The Online Learning Academy will provide a platform for students in grades K-12 to participate in engaging and interactive curriculum lessons. The platforms will provide instructional lessons, practice, and assessment alongside the ability to interact with the teacher and showcase learning. Teachers will provide feedback and support in an ongoing manner to foster the important student-teacher relationship.
How will the CCPS Online Learning Academy be structured/organized?
100% of instruction will be online following the curriculum outlined in the Virginia Standards of Learning. Our curriculum platform will be designed and structured as follows:
Grades K-2: Seesaw Online Learning Platform
Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies and engaging Social/Emotional Learning content
Supports socialization among students and teachers
Includes highly interactive features to create and reflect such as videos, voice recording, drawing, and typing
Teachers provide each student with responsive feedback on work through videos, voice recordings, and text
Grades 3-12: Virtual Virginia supported by the Canvas Learning Management System Platform
Grades 3-5: Reading, Math, Science/Social Studies, Social/Emotional Learning
Grades 6-12: Reading, Math, Science/Social Studies, Social/Emotional Learning, Electives

How much does it cost to enroll my child in the CCPS Online Learning Academy?
The Online Learning Academy is free of charge to any Campbell County registered student and is considered a full-time curriculum. Free access to public school content will be provided with the support of CCPS teachers, facilitators, and subject matter experts.
Why is the CCPS Online Learning Academy right for my child?
CCPS is dedicated to putting quality online curriculum directly into our own CCPS students and families' homes. With K-12-school options, we empower students to learn in the ways that are best for them—in their own place and at their own pace.
When your child needs an alternative to traditional school, this will be a great way to take charge of their learning. Online school takes place at home, on the road, or wherever there's an internet connection. CCPS is committed to empowering students to reach their potential—one child at a time.
What are the overall benefits of the CCPS Online Learning Academy?
Teacher Facilitated: CCPS teachers are available to support and assist your child when you have questions or need further instruction.
Self-Paced: We all learn at different speeds; learn at the pace that's right for your child.
Flexible & Convenient: The Online Learning Academy goes where you are and with your schedule.
Free: The Online Learning Academy is tuition-free and full time .
For all Grade Levels: The Online Learning Academy will serve students in grades K–12.
Taught by CCPS Teachers: Each grade level will have certified CCPS teachers who will provide instruction, support, and feedback.
Includes 1-to-1 technology: CCPS will provide each student their own device to keep at home for completing course content (K-2: iPads, 3-12: laptops).
Extracurricular activities: Students who are enrolled in the Online Learning Academy may participate in any CCPS sports and extracurricular activities offered for which they are eligible.
What is the parent's role in online learning?
Get involved in your student's education by taking on the role of Learning Coach

Maintain regular contact with your child's teachers
Can Pre-K students be enrolled in the CCPS Online Learning Academy?
Pre-K students may not enroll in the CCPS Online Learning Academy due to federal funding grant guidelines.
Who will be working to support the needs of my child?
Subject Matter Experts will design content and curriculum around the Virginia Standards of Learning using the Campbell County pacing guides along with resources that include: CCPS Modules, Virtual Virginia lessons and modules, and Seesaw lessons.
Teachers and Facilitators are certified teachers who will create/modify engaging lessons from the existing curriculum, communicate with parents and students, provide opportunities for online discussion and collaboration, monitor progress, provide feedback, and provide social-emotional support for the students.
School Counselors will be available to assist with academic planning and support of mental health needs.
Special Education Teachers will ensure students with disabilities Individualized Educational Plans are being met and work with the teachers and students to support learning needs and differentiation.
Can my child participate in school-based sports and other extracurricular activities?
Yes! Campbell County Public Schools Online Learning Academy students are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities and sports at the home school in which they are zoned. Visit your child's school website to find out more about extracurricular activities, information on try-outs, dates, and procedures. Please note, per COVID-19 restrictions, extracurricular activities and sports schedules may be postponed or altered during the 2020-2021 school year.
Will there be opportunities for my child to communicate and work with other children?
Students will have opportunities to communicate and collaborate with other classmates within the virtual environment. The Learning Management System has many features that support discussion and group work.
Will my child be expected to do all of their learning online?
We will offer opportunities for hands-on learning through add-on materials and activities. Your child's teacher will provide material disbursement details.
How is attendance measured?
Students are expected to engage in assignments daily. Attendance shall be recorded by virtual presence, participation, engagement and evidence of work. Students that fail to engage in the online learning platform for multiple consecutive days will be contacted by the school.
Will there be times in which the student is required to be on a video call on a set day/time?
Our program schedule will be flexible for our students. We will offer scheduled office hours.
Will lunch be provided for CCOLA students?
Yes, there will be a designated day to pick-up lunches from the school. More details will be communicated at a later date.
Will band be available as an elective for students enrolled in the online academy?
At this time, no. Unfortunately, resources are limited, and we can only offer certain electives through the online academy. These electives will still be offered in the blended model.
Will my high school student’s elective be available?
Final electives and additional course offerings will be determined once registration is complete.
Will Pre-AP/AP Course offerings be available for our students?
Yes, more course offerings will be added as enrollment is finalized.
Will the Online Academy and in-person classes stay on the same topics at the same time? If in-person classes are cancelled due to a positive COVID case, will the in-person students temporarily jump into the Online Academy while they are waiting for their building to reopen?
Each school will be completing a hybrid model of instruction that will include remote learning. In the school, it will be the responsibility of the child’s assignment teacher to provide learning. If schools were to go remote, students assignments will be assigned by their regular classroom teacher. The regular schools will be using the same platforms and course materials that are provided by CCOLA.
Students enrolled in the Online Academy will have a designated teacher/facilitator. The Online Academy will operate as a “school” within the division and grades/transcripts will be shared back at the students home school.
Will my child's high school elective be offered?
Final electives and additional course offerings will be determined once registration is complete.
I want my child to participate in the Campbell County Online Learning Academy. I completed the enrollment application. Is that all that needs to be done before the August 5th deadline?
Completion of the CCOLA application secures your spot. Unless we are notified otherwise, we are expecting your participation. If you have decided to withdraw your application and plan to attend school in person, please contact your school by August 12.
If my child enrolls in the Campbell County Online Learning Academy and decides to go back to in-person learning, will he/she have the same teacher?
No, CCOLA has been staffed by CCPS teachers whose sole responsibility will be to instruct or facilitate our online academy students.
If I want to enroll in the Campbell County Online Learning Academy, do I need internet access in my home?
Yes, students enrolling in the Campbell County Online Learning Academy must have reliable internet access. A minimum of 2 Mb per second download and 0.75 Mb per second upload internet speed is suggested. Test your speed here: https://fast.com/
Does the county provide internet access or financial assistance with the purchase of internet connectivity?
The county is exploring options for expanding internet connectivity, such as expanding the internet connectivity around our schools (WiFi access in parking lots) and equipping parked buses with hot spots in designated community locations. However, we are not providing individual household internet service.
Is there a possibility that the Online Academy students would finish their semester/year requirements sooner than in-person students ?
No, content will be released a week at a time.
My child is a High School student, and there school will be following a block schedule. Will the Online Academy students also be following a block schedule?
Yes, CCOLA will be following a block schedule.
Will there be times in which the student is required to be on a video call on a set day/time?
Our program schedule will be flexible for our students. We will offer scheduled office hours.

If my child enrolls in the Campbell County Online Learning Academy and decides to go back to in-person learning, will he/she have the same teacher? – (updated 8/17/2020)
At the elementary level, specific teachers have been selected to staff CCOLA, and those teachers will provide online instruction for those K-5 students enrolled in CCOLA.
At the secondary level, in order to accommodate staffing needs and a variety of course offerings, secondary teachers will be responsible for the instruction of all students assigned to their rosters, where some students will be in-person, and some will be solely online in the CCOLA.
If I decide to do the Campbell County Online Learning Academy at the start of school, when would I have the option to change to blended learning in the schools?
You are able to revisit your options at the end of the first nine weeks. This decision will be for the remainder of the school year.
