This a math support class that will provide students with another opportunity to supplement the foundation standards with problem solving, logic, and creativity. In this semester-long class, there is no formal homework. However, occasionally, students will be asked to complete unfinished classwork. My goal is to help the students persevere through challenging work, learn to ask/formulate clarifying questions, apply familiar concepts, and practice organizing their thought processes.
*This course in taken in addition to their required math course.
As the ASD class reviews and previews math material, growth mindset lessons will be woven into the curriculum. Students who embrace growth mindsets—the belief that they can learn more or become smarter if they work hard and persevere—may learn more, learn it more quickly, and view challenges and failures as opportunities to improve their learning and skills. We began the year by building brain models and discussing how each part of the brain enables us to learn and retain concepts.
