The California Arts Framework for Public Schools provides the scope and sequence for the design and implementation of the district’s visual arts program. The curriculum is being aligned with grade level Anchor Standards and opportunities to create, respond, present, and connect through authentic artistic experiences.
Every two weeks, all TK-5th grade classes in the district receive instruction in an arts medium that is individualized for each grade level. Lessons in drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, clay, and mixed media are experiential and participatory. Students address specific themes and objectives as they engage in the creative process with a variety of materials and scaffolded techniques.
Each lesson introduction includes connections to the work of a contemporary or influential artist and the Elements and Principles of Art. Inquiry-based questions encourage student observations and reflection for their own work.
In Cambrian SD we value and promote artistic literacy knowing that involvement in the arts contributes to the creation of lifelong learners who are prepared to accomplish their own goals in life and participate collaboratively in a global community.
