About the Teacher

Mrs. Ireland

I was born in New York and raised in Massachusetts. I called the Berkshires my home for most of my life. I moved across the country with my husband Fran and 18 year old daughter Grace from Massachusetts fifteen years ago. We absolutely love the Northwest! I love to spend time with my family, camp, hike, bike, ski, travel and explore the Northwest. I love to read and play soccer. My daughter attended Camas Montessori, Grass Valley, Skyridge and the IAA program. She is a freshman at Whitman College in Walla Walla. We have a black lab, Sasha who keeps us on our toes!

I love to teach. My Mother was a teacher and I grew up always wanting to teach. I even made my little sisters "play" school so I could teach them! I have been teaching for 25 years. I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I have my Master's degree in Special Education from Elms College. I have earned my National Board Certification - NBTC in Exceptional Needs K-12.

I believe all children can learn and we as educators must find the way they learn best. I believe in equity for all students. Every child has the right to access all learning opportunities and are only limited by false perceptions or lack of opportunity. I believe exceptionalities should be celebrated and used to make our communities stronger and more diverse. I believe that every child has strengths and gifts to share that make them unique and important. I believe these strengths can be used to overcome challenges. I love that every day is new and every day can be an opportunity to teach, learn and help students overcome obstacles and reach their goals.
