The Dorothy Fox Library strives to offer students a well-rounded, updated collection of books and online resources to support student interest and the curriculum. Our library collection is consistently evaluated and improved to become more relevant and appealing to our school community, particularly our students. Books are selected based on student/staff requests, collection needs, and critical reviews.
General guidelines:
Books are automatically checked out for one (1) week. Students may renew books they are not finished reading by letting Ms. Logan or Mrs. Sheppard know they would like to renew during check-out on their regular library day, before school, or on Wednesdays at lunch recess. They do not need to have the book with them to renew it.
DFE does not charge late fees. However, others may be waiting to read books, so please return them when you are finished reading them. Students grades 2-5 with overdue (books that are past their due date) books may not check out additional books, but they may get honor books (books that are not part of the library's catalog, found in the designated shelves near the tv corner). Students in K-1 may check out books up to their limit. If they already have the maximum number of books out, they may select honor books. I do not keep track of honor books.
Students are encouraged to take the number of books they need and can carry. This number is different for every student. Kindergarten and 1st grade students begin the year by choose 1-2 books at a time. The default maximum in our system is five (5). If a student needs more than five books, they can speak to Ms. Logan about qualifying for an exception.
If you lose or damage a book, you may pay for it by sending a check payable to Dorothy Fox Elementary. The library cannot provide change. We would always prefer to have the book back, so wait a few weeks before sending in payment. If you find a book after you have paid for it, you may either keep the book or donate it back to the library.
