I don't know about you, but social distancing has changed how I communicate with my friends and family. It also has changed how I get work done. I have learned how to work from home, which looks drastically different from my typical day at school. One big change is when I work. When I work from home I can work any time of the day, so I have to manage my time wisely in order to get things done. I also have to think about where I am going to work. Picking a good work space is important. I have had to make a "homework" space that is comfortable and free from distractions. Finally, I have had rethink how I work. One way my work life has changed has been through the use of videoconferencing. Now, instead of meeting face-to-face in person, I am meeting with other teachers and students face-to-screen, using programs like Zoom and Facetime.
Sadly, to protect our community, we will not be starting our school year in person. Distance learning will continue to be an adjustment for us all. I am committed to making this school year fun and meaningful for each of you. I am also committed to supporting your families during this time.

Learning will look different online, but here is what you can expect from my class. Each Monday, I will post a weekly learning pathway, on this website and in Google Classroom. Each learning pathway will challenge you to explore new topics and new ways to learn from home. There will be activities for you to do, both online and offline. Pathways will be divided into three sections. The first section is called Learn It. In this section will be resources for you to explore in order to learn about a topic on your own. The second section is called Practice It. In this section I will provide you with a variety of activities that require you to apply or practice what you learned. The final section is Evidence of Learning. In this section you will have a task to complete and submit to me in order to show what you learned that week. For larger projects, you will also submit a Weekly Project Work Report. Both your Evidence of Learning and the Project Work Report are due by the start of our first Zoom meeting the following week. On a typical five day week, this will be Monday at 12:30.
Pathways are designed for you to complete independently and on your own, but if you get stuck use your resources. Chances are someone at home, or a classmate, can help you out. If not, send me an email and we can set up a time to video conference during my office hours.
Be sure to mark your calendars to be online 12:30 on Mondays & Thursday. This is when we will hold live class meeting to check in and connect with our classmates. I will use this time to building community, provide collaboration opportunities, share your work, and to support your learning by working 1:1 and with small groups to answer questions that you may have.

Ensure the video background is free from distractions and school appropriate.
Recording is prohibited by participants.
Mute microphone to avoid excess distraction when others are speaking. Use the video conferencing tools to raise your hand and wait to be called on by the teacher before unmuting.
Minimize/eliminate distracting noises or visuals that may disrupt learning such as people walking by, tapping, loud music, etc.
Maintain school discipline and behavior expectations, including respectful dialog and dress code.
“Netiquette" refers to Internet etiquette. This simply means the use of good manners in online communication such as e-mail, forums, blogs, and social networking sites. Netiquette helps eliminate miscommunication and misunderstandings while supporting respectful interaction.
Students must abide by the expectations outlined in CSD’s Network Use and Internet Safety Procedure (2022). In using Google Classroom, email, and other online tools, students need to be respectful of their teacher(s) and classmates. This includes but is not limited to:
Recording online sessions (not permitted by students)*
Keeping class meeting links and invites confidential beyond parents or guardians
Respectful behavior and language
Appropriate topic discussions
Appropriate video transmissions
Appropriate use of icons, emojis, and avatars
School appropriate clothing (if attending meetings via video)
Not plagiarizing or copying others’ work (academic integrity)
Not falsifying information about themselves or impersonating others online
Violations of the procedure include:
Academic Dishonesty/Plagiarism
Bullying/Cyberbullying
Dress Code Violations**
Hate Speech
Inappropriate Language
Misrepresentation
Pornography
Sharing video-conference links with persons other than parents/guardians
