1. Are students able to turn assignments in late?
It’s very important children learn to manage their time and to adhere to due dates. With that said, they are children! There are times when life throws us a curve ball and we need to adjust. Please let me know if there are life-circumstances I should know about when it comes to your child's work completion because I'm happy to accomodate students when needed.
2. Are students able to redo poor scoring assessments?
Yes! I love seeing students who want to improve their learning. We have a redo policy for summative assessments.
3. Do you assign homework each night?
No, I do not assign homework. Your student may need more time to finish an assignment at home that we started in class, but I do not assign homework. Please make sure to contact me if your child is doing more than 50 minutes of “finishing” work from a daily assignment.
4. Are students allowed to eat snacks in your classroom?
Snacks are typically allowed. We have a high number of food allergies, especially peanuts and tree nuts. I prefer the students eat fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and proteins as they do not leave the same mess as granola bars, crackers, candy, chips, soda, or any other food that the kids love. :) I tell the students to save the "good stuff" for their lunches and keep the healthy stuff for my class. The kids know we will discontinue snacks if messes become a problem. Water is the only drink allowed in class. I've broken many hearts of students who have walked down the hall with smoothies or coffee, but water is the only thing allowed out of the cafeteria and down our halls to the classrooms.
5. Is gum allowed in class?
Yes! I allow the kids to chew gum until it becomes a problem. I remind them to pick gum up if it falls out of their mouth and to make sure gum ends up in the garbage and not under the table.
6. My student said he/she can listen to music while working in class. Is this true?
Yes, students can listen to music while working and if I've given them the go-ahead. Students may use their Chromebooks for music and I suggest Google Play, Spotify, or Pandora. Youtube or other music channels with videos are not allowed.
7. May my student have their phone in class?
Our school rule is all phones should be in the student's locker during the school day. Staff is directed to have students take the phone or bluetooth headphones to the office and the student can pick them up at the end of the day.
