About This Site

The American Legion, commonly known as the Legion, is a non-profit organization of U.S. war veterans headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is made up of state, U.S. territory, and overseas departments, and these are in turn made up of local posts. The organization was formed on March 15, 1919, in Paris, France, by a thousand officers and men of the American Expeditionary Forces (A. E. F.), and it was chartered on September 16, 1919, by the United States Congress.

The Legion played the leading role in drafting and passing the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, commonly known as the "G.I. Bill". In addition to organizing commemorative events, members provide assistance at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals and clinics. It is active in issue-oriented U.S. politics. Its primary political activity is lobbying on behalf of interests of veterans and service members, including support for benefits such as pensions and the Veterans Health Administration. It has also historically promoted Americanism, individual obligation to the community, state, and nation; peace and good will.

Site Rules

Alcohol

Leave your booze at home. This venue is licensed to sell alcohol and depends on sales as a business. Please respect their request and support that business. Beer, wine, and spirits will be available at the bar. Beer will be available in the concession stand.

The Land

Please respect the grass and grounds. The site has been generous in letting us set up tents in the outfield of their baseball field. Please leave the grass in as good a condition as is possible. This includes not having ground fires or digging rain trenches. Tent stakes and above ground fires (braziers) are fine, dispose of your ashes responsibly.

Trash

This site has limited trash removal options. Please police your own trash and take it off site with you when you leave. We will have the ability to haul off SOME trash, namely feast trash, but our resources for this are minimal.

The Memorial

This site includes an impressive Military Veteran Memorial and has been one of the locations for the traveling Vietnam War Memorial. While the area is open to the public we ask that our event maintains a respectful distance.
