Patch, Vest, and Identification Guidelines
Updated June 2021
"In Training" Patches are required to be worn by all dogs until Public Access certification requirement is met. Patches, badges, or other identifiers on your service dog's vest can be customized but must refrain from using offensive language, imagery, or terms. See examples below.
Official California Service Dog Academy identification cards are the only cards allowed to be used to present identification of your service dog. ID cards, certificates, and other identifying information purchased from online retailers is considered promoting fraudulent service dog identification. Alternative identifying information can be found on Amazon, Etsy, and false service dog certification sites like US Service Dog Registry.com, etc. Please do not purchase from these sites and only present your CSDA ID if you need to provide identification for your service dog. Examples of fake service dog ID cards are below. To clarify, patches, ID card holders, vests, and other service dog materials may be purchased from online retailers, ID cards may NOT.

Travel Information
Flying with your SD
American Airlines new travel requirements! The Airlines are now starting to implement the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) New Rules for “Flying with Service Dogs”. Two DOT forms have been created. One is to confirm the health, training and behavior of a service dog and the other is attestation to the toileting relief of a service dog that will be on a flight for 8 hours or longer.
American Airlines was the first to announce how they will implement the DOT forms stating that the forms will be good for one year; less if the service dog’s rabies vaccination expires before the year is complete. They also offered to allow any graduate teams trained by ADI NA Member or Candidate Programs, to fill out and submit the American Airline DOT forms early to get a jump on things. This form is available to the general public when making reservations.
