The Horticulture Club exists to support the Calhoun High School plant science courses through hands-on engagement with food production.
We empower students to connect classroom learning with real-world practice through school-based garden projects and building infrastructure that strengthens both education and wellness.
Classroom and club members get to participate in cultivating a garden, harvesting, and selling produce to raise funds for scholarships and field trips.
Club members get to attend various field trips through the year, including:
Moody Gardens
South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center
Aransas Wildlife Refuge
And more...
Each year the club awards scholarships to our most active seniors for their fundraising efforts.
Scholarships typically range from $1,000 to $3,000 each.
Real-world business skills — Marketing, management, maintenance, leadership, money handling, and work ethic all come into play as students take ownership of club operations.
Purpose-driven effort — Members contribute to something bigger than themselves, creating value for the school, community, and future students.
Career exploration — Hands-on experience sparks interest in horticultural careers and opens doors to opportunities across agriculture, science, and business.
Scholarship-worthy work — Students earn real scholarships through meaningful contributions — and take pride in the effort behind every dollar awarded.
Together, we grow more than plants—we grow opportunities and a healthier future.
