Classroom Curriculum Connections

This field trip program compliments the Amplify - Plant and Animal Relationship unit.   Additionally, you may also choose to teach one of our lessons related to this field trip.

Technically, earthworms are not insects, but you may find them, too!

Insects Investigation

Encourage kids to directly engage with nature through investigation and observation, in a safe and supportive environment.

Conserving nature begins with connecting to nature. Research shows that giving families opportunities to engage in hands-on nature-based activities can increase children’s excitement toward environmental behaviors. Through Nature Play, parents and caregivers can promote that connection to nature.

There are thousands of species of insects in our world, and each are adapted to survive in their habitat. In this activity, students will learn what an insect is and what some of their adaptations are. Then they will put their knowledge into play by "creating" an insect that is adapted to live in their assigned environment.

PINECONES & FRIENDS

AFTER THE FIELDTRIP: Students explore their own schoolyard or nearby park.  Are there pinecones, nuts or acorns? Students hone their observation skills, as they use tools to identify what they have found.  Students will sketch, and tell stories about how they have connected with pinecones in their own lives. Share student work in the Padlet!
