As students today have access to a wide range of information at their fingertips, we need to prepare them to navigate the Internet safely and productively. We want to be proactive, not reactive.
Guided by research, we have partnered with Common Sense Media to provide these lessons. For more information on Common Sense Media and Digital Citizenship, click here.
To comply with the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), Common Sense Education created this essential guide to help districts or schools address the key topics E-rate recipients need to teach students, including internet safety, appropriate online behavior, and cyberbullying. It also provides an overview of E-rate, with answers to commonly asked questions about eligibility, services supported, and audits. To qualify for E-rate funding, it is required to teach Digital Citizenship. For more information about e-rate funding, click here.
Registering will allow you to have access to lesson plans and resources available through Common Sense Education. It is also needed to if you plan to be recognized as a Common Sense Educator or Common Sense School.
All lessons can be found on the CVUSD Website and on this site under Lessons. You can also access them on the Common Sense Media.
Each lesson will take between 45-60 minutes to complete.
All 4 lessons need to be taught by Winter Break. You can choose to teach them whenever you would like as long as you have completed them by this date. Individual sites may determine when lessons will be taught.
This determination will be done by individual sites. A specific department may teach the lessons, a grade level team may teach lessons, lessons may be taught during Homeroom, the librarian or computer lab tech may teach the lessons, or a combination of educators. Please work with your administrators to determine what will work best for you and your students.
No. Once students submit their assessment, we will have documentation that each student will receive these lessons.
