Our goals:
build a solid science vocabulary
gain a strong understanding of key scientific principles and topics
learn how to use critical thinking and creativity to tackle scientific problems
understand how science is related to other disciplines
CLASSROOM EXPECTTIONS:
Be prompt (On time, distractions put away)
Be Prepared (Have supplies out, ready to learn)
Be Productive (Check Classroom EVERY DAY for directions, use class time to complete work)
Be Polite (respectful, courteous, cooperative)
Be the best you can be!!!
Consequences - Various consequences will be given for inappropriate behaviors such as tardies, the unauthorized use of cell phones or electronics, class time disruptions, cheating or defiance. The following consequences will occur:
Verbal warning/ Consult with Student
Parent contact and/or after school or lunch detention
Referral to Assistant Principal

A pencil, a red pen and a highlighter.
Science notebook- composition type - 100 pages
Colored pencils
Small, hand-held Pencil Sharpener
ABSENCE POLICY:
Students are responsible for completing any assignments missed due to absences. Assignments are posted daily in Google Classroom. Students can come to office hours if there is a question about an assignment.
NO EMAILS FOR LATE WORK PLEASE!
Full credit will be given for all work completed within one week of the absence. Tests or quizzes that are missed must be made up during office hours within one week.
Extra Help- Office Hours
If a student needs to turn in absent work, is doing poorly or needs some extra help on an assignment, I am available Mon- Fri before or after school. NO EMAILS FOR LATE WORK PLEASE!
Academic Grades:
Students’ academic grades are based on cumulative points earned in the following categories during each trimester:
Assessments (40%)- Quizzes, Tests and Projects/Applied knowledge.
Classwork (40%)- Notebook and Class assignments posted in Classroom.
Participation (10%)- Based on in class activities.
A= 100%-90% B=89%-80% C=79%-70% D=69%-60% F=59% -0%
Assessments
Quizzes, Tests and some projects will make up the assessments grade.
Daily Work
Daily work will be posted on Google Classroom.
Generally, daily work not completed in class should be completed after class by the due date (generally the next class day). If students are using their time wisely, work to be completed at home should be minimal.
Incomplete work will receive a score of 0. These cannot be resubmitted for a grade. Turn in your best effort the first time.
Late Work
Late work due to absences will be accepted for one week past the due date. No other assignments will be accepted late (please reach out if you have a true emergency)
The effort grade is based on the percentage of assignments that are turned in on time and complete.
Weekly Citizenship Grade
Each week, the students will receive a 10 point citizenship grade which will be posted in Zangle. Disruptions to class, including tardies, inappropriate comments or behavior, and leaving class early will lower citizenship grades.
Grade “O” Outsatanding - These students demonstrate outstanding behavior every day. They remain focused and on task without having to be reminded. These students always treat the teacher and other students with respect.
Grade “G” Good - These students demonstrate appropriate behavior. They require occasional reminding to remain focused and on task. These students always treat the teacher and others with respect.
Grade “S” Satisfactory - These students demonstrate average behavior most days. They require frequent reminders to remain focused and on task. These students occasionally talk while the teacher is talking and are easily distracted.
Grade “N” Needs Improvement- These students demonstrate below average behavior. They are excessively off task and require constant monitoring. Their behavior is a disruption to the learning environment.
Grade “U” Unsatisfactory - These students demonstrate unacceptable behavior. They often behave in a manner that is disrespectful, defiant and/or disruptive.
DO NOT EXPECT A WARNING FOR REDIRECTION - BY 8TH GRADE YOU SHOULD BE FAMILIAR WITH APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR- Needing to stop and redirect adds to the disruption.
