What Does a day in 4K look like?

Morning Meeting: During morning meeting, students greet each other and the teacher, and read and discuss the morning message. Students help the teacher to update the calendar and discuss days of the week, months of the year as well as the weather. Students count the days of school, discuss student jobs and learn and practice essential math skills.
Literacy Circle: Our literacy circle is a daily instructional group time that teaches the letter of the day. In your students' time in 4k they will engage in five letter cycles each with a unique focus covering all 26 letters within each cycle. This time intentionally focuses on letter identification, letter sounds, and letter formation.
Table Centers: Intentional small group activities that include fine motor skills with a focus on essential standards for 4K learners.
Phonics Group Time: During our phonics group time, we use the Heggerty curriculum which is an auditory practice for students to build phonemic awareness skills such as: rhyming, identifying sounds, beginning sounds, blending sounds, etc.
Social Emotional Circle: The Second Step program teaches skills in the following four areas: Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, and Friendship Skills/Problem Solving.
