Rural broadband is an important issue for Montgomery County and the entire ARCO region. In an effort to better serve the members of the community ARCO in Action- Montgomery County has taken on the project of seeking Rural Connect Grants from the Arkansas Department of Commerce, as well as, the US- Department of Agriculture.
We know the value of having high-speed internet for our region is critical in an effort to offer more tele-health services, at home access during Alternative Methods of Instruction for K-12 students, and businesses that would like to engage in work from home WFH programs.
On September 2nd, 2020 ARCO in Action Montgomery County was notified of an award from the Arkansas Rural Connect program in the amount of $1,645,530 in a joint grant application with Windstream Arkansas. These funds will be used to expand and upgrade service to the communities within Montgomery County. Services will be expanded to ensure that households served will have 25 mbps internet service or greater. This grant has been a joint effort of the Mount Ida Area Chamber of Commerce, ARCO In Action- Montgomery County, and the Montgomery County Judges office. Below are the current maps that outline the implementation areas.
The following maps have been provided from Windstream. The green dots represent updated or expanded service areas. This is phase one of a multi-phase project to expand and begin service across the entire county. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
