All students in grades 7 and 8 are reviewed for academic eligibility.
Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
Eligible students will be notified in writing of their eligibility to be considered for NJHS.
Students who meet the academic requirement will receive an Eligibility Letter and a Candidate Interest Form.
Students must return the completed form by the stated deadline to indicate whether or not they wish to be considered for NJHS membership.
Students who express interest will receive the NJHS Student Information Packet.
Interested students must complete and submit the NJHS Candidate Packet by the published deadline. The packet collects information regarding the student’s leadership roles, service activities, community activities, and recognitions.
Students will also complete an essay that include the qualities that are reflective of students in the National Junior Honor Society.
A Faculty Council composed of five staff members (appointed by the principal) will review each completed candidate packet.
Each candidate will be evaluated in the areas of:
Scholarship
Leadership
Service
Character
Citizenship
A majority vote of the council is required for a candidate to be selected.
Selected students will receive an official invitation to become members of the National Junior Honor Society.
Students not selected will be notified respectfully and confidentially. Appeals will be considered only in cases of procedural errors.
Selected students will be formally inducted at a school-sponsored NJHS Induction Ceremony, where they will commit to uphold the values of NJHS and receive a certificate of membership. (participation in the induction ceremony is a requirement of membership)
After induction, members are expected to:
Maintain the standards of NJHS in all five pillars
Attend NJHS meetings and events
Complete service hour requirements
Participate in chapter leadership and service activities
