Array Collective workshop 2023

Year 11 and 13 artist's had the opportunity to discuss and reflect on the commissioned artworks from the Artichoke Project Gallery and explore art in the public realm as inspiration for this fun-filled workshop[. They worked with various art mediums to create their own ‘billboard’ artwork responding to the theme of ‘The state we’re in’. Belfast based, 2021 Turner Prize winners, Array Collective facilitated this workshop and shared their personal experience of working within Northern Ireland's creative industries with our students. This was a wonderful opportunity for our young people to talk to professional artists and learn more about the arts sector as a profession.

Printmaking workshop with

Fionnuala O'Neill

AS Level Art & Design students had a full day workshop with Printmaker Fionnuala O'Neill. This provided our students with the valuable opportunity to learn from a practicing artist and to develop their own printmaking skills. A fabulous range of prints were produced for their AS Unit 1 Experimental Portfolios.

An audience with Colin Davidson

It was a real honour to have Colin Davidson visit our Art & Design department here in St. Patrick's Grammar school. Our students were captivated and inspired by hearing his accounts of his personal creative journey and the highlights of his impressive career to date. Colin answered the students questions with honesty and delivered sound advice, urging them not to compare themselves to other artists and not to think "this couldn't happen to me."Students, parents and invited guests received a wonderful insight into the processes of creating his incredible work, the struggles that come with it and how he overcomes them.Colin took a genuine interest in the excellent work within our Art & Design department and engaged in discussions with our students about their current projects. This was a unique and invaluable opportunity for our aspiring young artists. Huge thanks to Colin for taking the time to share his work with us and to all involved in organising such a successful evening.
